About the Program

Whether through illness, family trauma or unforeseen circumstances, some families in our community are facing a tough year and are struggling to make ends meet.

You can provide hope and dignity for a child this fall by supporting the Backpack Program.

How to Donate: 

Please consider donating school supplies or a gift card and inspire a child to succeed this school year.

Donations will be accepted at City Hall from June 1st until August 31st. For more information, contact the Community Resource Worker at (403) 207-7081. 

Note about Donations: The Community Resource Centre accepts donations (monetary and material) on behalf the local basic needs fund, Christmas with Dignity. If you would like to donate to the Backpack Program, please consider donating a gift cards at $25 or $50 denominations from A Dollar Store, Walmart or Staples. We also accept new items like: backpacks, lunch kits, pencils, notebooks, binders, paper, and etc.

How to Register

Each year the Community Resource Centre works with local schools and families to make sure students start the school year off right. The Community Resource Worker meets with the individual and/or family to learn about the school supply subsidy program, as well as, learn about other resources that can help offset expenses for the individual and/or family throughout the year.

Registration for the Backpack program runs from June 1st to August 17th.

The Community Resource Worker will need at least one of the following:

  • A referral from a school representative.
  • Documentation of school or transportation fees being waived.
  • Documentation of benefits such as CCB, EI, AiSH, income support, or other social assistance.
