As the weather gets warmer, bike enthusiasts look forward to crushing the trails of the Chestermere Family Bike Park. This year, riders will be able to tackle new challenges following the completion of several new upgrades.
“This season is going to be our best yet, so we ask for riders’ patience as we complete current construction and make the park better for all users,” said Community Recreation Coordinator, Katelyn Richards.
In addition to regular spring maintenance, City staff are constructing an extension to the pump track to accommodate more users, creating a strider area next to the pump track for beginner cyclists to build skills, extending the skills loop, and upgrading the beginner and intermediate flow tracks to make them more rider-friendly.
Construction began April 10 and is tentatively scheduled until the beginning of May. If poor or wet weather forces construction to continue into May, staff will make every effort to open some tracks (provided they can do so safely).
“We aim to have all tracks open by the beginning of June, when we will host our first annual Bike Park Kick-Off event,” said Richards.
The Bike Park Kick-Off Event is Saturday, June 3 from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and will include:
- Free skills clinics for kids
- Free hot dogs from 12:00-1:30
- A chance to meet Bike Shop sponsors at their event tents
- A chance to win a $50 gift card from Ridley’s Cycle for joining the Bike Park Club
