On Monday, Council accepted another Letter of Intent for land in the City’s southeast light industrial development. With the additional 2.26 acres, over half of the developable land in Phase I (of two) has now been spoken for.
“As a community, we are open for business and it’s great to see so much enthusiasm from the industrial sector,” says Mayor Marshall Chalmers. “We look forward to seeing a completed subdivision plan and associated costs of development in the coming months and bringing more non-residential development to Chestermere.”
Last month, the City awarded the contract for creating the Webster Light Industrial Park Subdivision Plan to GHD Ltd. Meetings have begun and the City expects a preliminary plan for the property to be prepared by June of this year.
“We are very pleased to have GHD working to create a detailed plan for this significant development in Chestermere,” says Catherine Proulx, Economic Development Manager. “They have been operating for 90 years and we look forward to their award winning expertise in this project.”
Subdivision planning will include outlining detailed engineering and infrastructure needs, definition of lot sizes, wetland approval finalization and grading proposals for the area. Upon approval, the plan will provide the required level of detail needed to begin developing the property.
The Park, located at the corner of Township Road 240 and Range Road 282 is Chestermere’s first City owned development and was pursued to increase the non-residential tax base in the community. It is anticipated that at full build out, the park will provide between 500 and 1,500 local jobs and generate $1 Million in taxes for the City each year. Tax revenues are not being used as a source of funding for this project.
