Arts & Culture

Chestermere boasts its own community within a community of artists, craftsmen and residents interested in the history as the heart of this growing community.

Chestermere Fine Arts Guild

The Fine Arts Guild currently has an active membership of local artists who paint using a variety of mediums from oil, watercolors, acrylics and mixed media. Several of the members of the Fine Arts Guild also teach within the community. New members are welcome.

Chestermere Ladies Group

The first meeting to organize and form a “Ladies Group” was held on Thursday, August 30, 1979 in the old Chestermere Hall. The executive elected were Diane Schneidmiller (president), Lorraine Webster (secretary) and Dorothy Brand (treasurer). The Ladies Group began meeting every week.

The purpose of the group, when originally formed, was to complement the existing community organizations. Monies raised from teas, caterings and other projects were put towards childrens’ projects or directed where needed as determined by the group. Many improvements and projects have been sponsored in the Chestermere Recreation Center including the purchase of stoves, fridges, sinks, dishwasher, dishes, roll up shutters for the kitchen and bar area.

The Ladies Group has supported many activities over the years in the spirit of fun and volunteerism. Every Christmas they decorate the Hall and White room. The group’s monthly pot luck suppers are very fun and enjoyed by the ladies and their spouses.

Lakeside Quilters Guild

The Guild meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month (except July and August) at 7 pm at the Chestermere Recreation Complex.

The Lakeside Quilters Guild promotes the heritage of quilting in the Chestermere community. The Lakeside Quilters undertake charity projects each year and donate these quilts to the community. Demonstrations, workshops and classes to teach the art of quilting are held regularly. It is a great place to share ideas, work together and enjoy the special interest in quilting.

A limited number of memberships are available due to space limitations.
