Note: the Federal census will also be taking place at the same time as the municipal census, and it is important to complete both. Municipal census results come out right away which can improve grant funding for our community.

Complete the 2013 Census Online The questions for this year’s census are:
  • How many people live in your home?
    • We ask this to have an accurate population count and track the growth of the city from year to year. Some of our grants are also based on population so having an accurate number ensures we receive the appropriate amount for our community.
  • What is the gender of each person?
    • Knowing the gender and ages of people in our community helps us identify needs for community programs.
  • What is the age of each person?
    • Knowing the gender and ages of people in our community helps us identify needs for community programs.
  • Do you rent or own your home?
    • Understanding the number of people who rent helps us to understand the housing needs of our city and assists in planning for future developments.
  • Please indicate your dwelling type.
    • We ask this to determine occupancy rates of different types of homes and to understand which types of dwellings are located in the various neighbourhoods.

Quality Assurance - Optional

The City is undertaking optional Quality Assurance measures to ensure that census results are accurate and complete.

Please note that if an enumerator collects information from you, they may ask for your phone number. Your number will be provided to the Census Coordinator who will contact you to verify that the system recorded your results correctly.

Please note that your information will be kept secure and will only be seen by the Enumerator and Census Coordinator.

The Government of Alberta requires municipalities to conduct quality assurance measures when conducting a census.

Why we conduct a census:

Determining our population helps the City plan and results in additional grant money from the Province. Data is used to plan for roads, recreation, protective services and more. It’s integral in planning for our residents’ needs so we can serve you better. It can also result in additional grant funding for the province which is vital for our growing community.
