August 2010 Municipal Enforcement Investigations Completed
The Bylaw Enforcement Office is a key component of the Protective Services Department. This office is responsible for the enforcement of municipal bylaws including animal control, parking violations, noxious weeds, unsightly and untidy properties, noise abatement and all other duties as assigned by the Chief Administrative Officer. Other responsibilities include educating the general public on town bylaws and making suggestions for amendments to the current bylaws.
The Town of Chestermere is pleased to announce that we have received official notice from the Solicitor General’s Office that effective December 30, 2009, the Town of Chestermere is authorized to employ Peace Officers. The Community Peace Officers (CPOs) have authority to enforce the following legislation and all regulations thereunder as amended from time to time, and serve court documents relating to:
• The Animal Protection Act
• The Dangerous Dogs Act
• The Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, Part 9, Division 2
• The Gaming and Liquor Act
• The Petty Trespass Act
• The Prevention of Youth Tobacco Use Act
• The Provincial Offences Procedure Act
• The Public Highways Development Act
• The Stray Animals Act
• The Traffic Safety Act
Please note that the CPO’s are restricted to certain sections when enforcing the Gaming and Liquor Act/Regulation and the Public Highways Development Act.
