Programs for Adults
Family and Community Support Services (FCSS)
FCSS brings a variety of programs to the community for individuals and families in Chestermere and Area. With your input, we design and deliver programs and services that promote and enhance well-being for all individuals, families and communities.

The Community Access Program (CAP) provides residents with access to resources around the community (including Chestermere, Langdon, and SE Rocky View). These resources help provide low-income families with the opportunity to participate in various activities, programs, and services in the area. For more information please see the brochure.

Community Support Services staff host walk in resource clinics throughout the year, please check our community calendar or social media for program dates.
Some of the Programs and Services we offer:
- Assistance with accessing government support programs (i.e. Income Support, Child Care Subsidy, Special Needs Assistance for Seniors, etc.)
- Information and referrals (i.e. mental health, support groups, parenting programs, counselling, training programs, etc.)
- Career and employment support referrals
- Referrals to subsidy programs (Community Access Program, KidSport, Canadian Tire Jumpstart, Kids Up Front)
- Community Volunteer Income Tax Program - volunteers help prepare tax returns for low income/simple tax situations
- Money Management and Financial Literacy - workshops to learn about effectively managing finances
- Gifts of Kindness - a local basic needs fund to support requests all year round

Need help preparing your tax return?
Community Support Services staff and its volunteers are trained in assisting individuals and families with a simple tax situation.
Simple Tax Situation
In general, your tax situation is simple if you have no income or if your income comes from these sources:
- Employment
- Pension
- Benefits such as CPP, disability, CCB, EI, social assistance
- RRSP
- Support payments
- Scholarships, fellowships, bursaries or grants
- Interest (under $1,000)
Your tax situation is not simple if you:
- Are self-employed or have employment expenses
- Have business or rental income and expenses
- Have capital gains or losses
- File for bankruptcy
- Are completing a tax return for a deceased person

Small Claims and Dispute Resolution
The Alberta courts provide information to consider; before you sue or if you are being sued and the process that is involved. They also provide information and referrals for dealing with landlord and tenant disputes. For small claims disputes look for civil claims under provincial court. For Residential Tenancy Dispute look under landlords and tenants.

Utilities Consumer Advocate Alberta Government
Whether renting or buying your home, you will need to know about your utilities. The Utilities Consumer Advocate (UCA) can tell you how to set up your electricity (power) and natural gas (heat). The UCA can also answer your questions and help you if you have a problem with your utility company.

Laws for Landlords and Tenants in Alberta
The Residential Tenancies Legal Information Program provides plain language information on housing law in Alberta. Staff conduct presentations across Alberta on landlord and tenant rights, develop information booklets and sample agreements and can answer reference questions.

BearPaw Legal Education & Resource Centre (BLERC)
A department of Native Counselling Service of Alberta (NCSA). Its mission is to develop and distribute materials to assist Aboriginal people in conflict with the law.
