Wildlife in Chestermere
Large Wildlife:
If bears, moose or cougars are spotted within Chestermere, call 911 immediately.Otherwise, call Alberta Fish and Wildlife at 403-297-6423 8:15 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday or 1-800-642-3800 after hours if you have a problem with:
- Badgers
- Deer
- Wolves
- Other large wildlife
The City of Chestermere has no specific bylaws in regards to honeybees and no permit is required to keep bees as a hobby. Beekeeping in Alberta is regulated by Alberta Agriculture. Anyone who keeps bees or owns beekeeping equipment anywhere in Alberta must, by law, register with Alberta Agriculture every year by June 30.
Commercial beekeeping does require a Discretionary use Development Permit and if approved a Business License in the City of Chestermere. Commercial Beekeeping is currently only allowed in the Large Lot Rural Residential (LLR) District and the Urban Transition (UT) District, but is still under the jurisdiction of Alberta Agriculture.
