City Council approves complimentary Library cards for 2021

Free Library Cards

Chestermere City Council is pleased to announce that for the entirety of 2021, all Chestermere residents are eligible for a complimentary Chestermere Public Library card.

“At the request of the Library Board through their local appropriation funding, Council has supported one-time funding to provide complimentary library cards for Chestermere residents in 2021,” says Mayor Marshall Chalmers. “We know that the past year has been challenging and we are eager to offer new opportunities to support our residents during this time of uncertainty.”

The Chestermere Public Library membership card usually costs a family $27 per year or $7 for seniors over 65. Chestermere City Council chose to cover the costs of the Library’s typical revenue from the cards and offer complimentary cards to all residents as a service to everyone impacted by the global pandemic.

We thank City Council for inspiring goodwill and granting this ask,” says Miranda Johnson, the Executive Director of the Chestermere Public Library. “With their support, the library can continue to comfort members of our community, encourage one another, and provide the resources and information needed to continue to live during the pandemic.”

With the complimentary card, residents will be able to access all the Library’s services throughout 2021 including:

  • Over 3 million items available for ordering through the Library’s network
  • Books, audiobooks, magazines, video games housed at the Library
  • E-Books and E-Resources
  • Book clubs and virtual meeting groups
  • Access to computers and office support (when the Library is open)
  • Programs at the Library (when the Library is open)

While the Library is currently closed to patrons due to COVID-19 restrictions, curbside pickup is still available and the Library will soon offer a courier service to deliver books to residents who are not able to come to the Library in person. All e-resources are still available.

To obtain a complimentary Library card (and a number needed to access online services), call 403-272-9025 or email info@chestermerepubliclibrary.com
