Mayor Chalmers has recorded a new video update to share some current stats and news about COVID-19 in Chestermere, watch the video below:
Today, I am very pleased to bring a positive outlook for our local COVID update.
Over the past week, our local cases have dropped significantly. While the numbers change daily, we have now dropped to 25 active cases for Chestermere. The last time we had less than 25 cases was back in October, so this is very exciting news indeed.
In addition, Chestermere High School and Prairie Waters are no longer listed as having outbreaks.
I am also encouraged that vaccines are now available to anyone over 75.
This means that for anyone born in 1946 or earlier, you can now call 811 or visit the link on your screen to book your appointment. We have been advised that exact amounts and times may change as the vaccine process is subject to federal shipments, but we encourage you to sign up today. There have been a few technical difficulties booking appointments as the demand is very high, but the Province has let us know that they are working on addressing any glitches.
Finally, we are hopeful that as a province, we can continue to progress into the next phase of reopening starting in March.
All in all, our cases are down. Vaccines are available for seniors. Spring is on the horizon, and hopefully the end of the pandemic is as well.
What we are doing is working.
BUT we cannot throw caution to the wind and undo all the hard work that has been done, especially in light of the new, more contagious variants present in Alberta.
Let’s continue to keep our cases low. Continue to keep your loved ones safe.
So we ask again:
Limit your in-person interactions. Stay home when you can. Stay 6 feet apart from others when you can’t.
Get tested when you have symptoms. Cooperate with contact tracers so that you can help protect others. Be kind to those who have contracted COVID. And continue to do your part to keep each other safe.
Your sacrifices are paying off Chestermere. Spring, and hope, are on the horizon. Thank you for your efforts. Thank you for all your contributions. Together, we can do it Chestermere.
