On the afternoon of Wednesday, September 15, at approximately 1:55 p.m., a Chestermere Peace Officer observed a suspicious male on the property of a Chestermere School.
The officer spoke with the male to inquire about his purpose for being at the school. The male appeared extremely nervous and then provided the officer with a false name.
Shortly after speaking with the male at the school, Peace Officers were also advised by the Chestermere RCMP that a robbery had just occurred in the 100 Block of Marina Drive.
The Peace Officer was concerned about the male’s behavior and noted that he resembled the description of the suspect provided in the Marina Drive robbery. As a result, additional RCMP support was immediately requested.
After a subsequent investigation, the male was arrested and a further search located items that were stolen in the robbery, as well as numerous pieces of stolen identification, a stolen vehicle, and a replica firearm.
A male from Manitoba now faces several charges in relation to this incident, as well as additional charges from Calgary and Manitoba.
This incident highlights the incredible teamwork and partnership that exists between City Peace Officers and RCMP to ensure the safety of Chestermere residents.
