Secure your vehicles and valuables this holiday season

secure your valuables this holiday season

The holiday season is busy, but its also a busy season for opportunistic criminals.

Chestermere RCMP and Community Peace Officers are reminding community members to keep valuables and gifts hidden from sight in your vehicles when you are shopping this holiday season.

Whether your car is parked in your driveway, garage or in a parking lot, it is important to secure all valuables. As Officers also see an increase in thefts of vehicles at this time of year, residents should also take additional safety precautions.

- Ensure your vehicle is locked at all times, especially if you are warming it up on a cold day or evening.  If you can, consider using or installing a remote starter.
- Do not to leave your garage door openers in your vehicle, and make sure to lock the door that connects your attached garage to your home.
- Start a routine where you check that your vehicles are secured, your garage door is closed, and any doors to your home/garage are locked every evening before bed.

These tips can help keep opportunistic criminals at bay and help keep your belongings and loved ones safe.
