The City of Chestermere is excited to announce that Theatre Calgary’s Shakespeare on the Go production of The Merry Wives of Windsor will make a stop at John Peake Park on Sunday, July 24. The outdoor performance will begin at 4 p.m. in the pavilion at John Peake Park (weather permitting).
Everyone is welcome to join us for this FREE, all-ages performance. We encourage attendees to bring a blanket or chairs to sit on, bug spray and sunscreen to enjoy the 75-minute show. We’ll also have food trucks in the park if you feel like grabbing some snacks while you watch. The actors will accept donations at the performance to help support Theatre Calgary’s emerging artist program.
The Merry Wives of Windsor
Hilarity ensues in this romantic farce about the misadventures of Falstaff as he seeks to deceive the wives of two wealthy merchants. Learning of his deception, the wives seek revenge with the help of their husbands. Will they get the upper hand on Falstaff or will his plan to trick them out of their riches succeed? One of Shakespeare’s wittiest comedies, The Merry Wives of Windsor has a contemporary perspective of small-town life in early England.
About Shakespeare On The Go
Theatre Calgary’s traditional Shakespeare by the Bow program is once again going on the road as Shakespeare On The Go. From July 8 - August 7, a cast of six emerging artists are travelling to a variety of Calgary and area locations to present The Merry Wives of Windsor.
Since 2012, the Shakespeare by the Bow program gives young emerging Alberta artists help to make the transition from their training into professional theatre by working with leading Canadian artistic, creative and production teams to bring Shakespeare to life. There will be no admission fees to attend any Shakespeare on the Go performances.
