City of Chestermere Mayor Jeff Colvin was pleased to accept a donation of $10,000 presented by Rotary Club of Chestermere President Karen McKee and Past President Akesh Aheer on August 22. The funds are intended to help offset the construction costs of a permanent shade shelter located at the Chestermere Family Bike Park.
South Asian community members living in Rainbow Falls previously identified the need for a sheltered place to gather and reached out to Rotary.
Following the request, the City of Chestermere partnered with the Rotary Club for assistance to help fund the project.
“The Rotary Club of Chestermere is honoured to partner with the City of Chestermere to build this shade structure,” said McKee. “We were very happy to help provide a meeting place to encourage communication and connectivity within our community!”
Since 2013, the Rotary Club has donated over $100,000 to the Family Bike Park. The construction of the shade structure was completed in 2021 and neighbourhood residents have enjoyed use of the structure since.
