In the early evening of May 24, a Chestermere Peace Officer was conducting traffic enforcement duties in the area of Range Road 284 and Chestermere Boulevard.
The officer observed a vehicle travelling southbound at an extremely high speed. The officer was able to lock the vehicle’s speed on his radar at 184kmph in a posted 80kmph zone.
The driver, a youth from Calgary, is now charged with several offences under the Traffic Safety Act and is scheduled to appear in Strathmore Provincial Court in relation to this incident.
This combination of youth, inexperience and high speeds had all the makings of a potential tragedy, which thankfully did not occur. Chestermere’s Peace Officers and RCMP are committed to ensuring the safety on our roadways, and targeting high risk driving behaviors in order to reduce collision related injuries and deaths.
Have a safe weekend.
