Earlier today, Mayor Marshall Chalmers gave a speech to all gathered for the annual ‘Mayor’s Breakfast’ event hosted by the Chestermere Chamber of Commerce.
In the speech, he made a few major announcements including:
- CUI: Mayor Chalmers announced that CUI will be coming back under municipal management with a goal of bringing stability to utility rates. Council hopes to make a final decision about how this will look before the end of 2018. www.chestermere.ca/cui
- Taxes: The Budget Review is complete and Chestermere residents can expect a tax decrease for 2019. A few adjustments may still occur before the final budget is passed in December, but at the last meeting, a 2% decrease was proposed. www.chestermere.ca/budget
- Seniors’ Housing: As a Strategic Plan commitment, Council is determined to find solutions for Seniors’ housing in Chestermere. Just this past Tuesday, Council created a task force to address this issue. www.chestermere.ca/agendas
- Ongoing Listening: Council is committed to continue listening to the community. Updates from community conversations like Amazing Chestermere and the Budget were provided. In addition, a community discussion will be held in December about improving safety on East Lakeview Road. Details will be announced soon.
