Chestermere Fire Services would like to remind all residents that October 7 - 13 is Fire Prevention Week. This year’s theme, “Have 2 Ways Out!” focuses on the importance of fire escape planning and practice.
It is important to have a home fire escape plan that prepares your family to think fast and get out quickly when the smoke alarm sounds. However, there may be occasions when the first escape route is blocked by smoke or flames. That’s why planning at least two escape routes with your family is an important part of fire safety.
“Even if you have your plan in place, Fire Prevention Week is a good opportunity for families to review their plans and talk about fire safety,” said Captain Brent Paquette of Chestermere Fire Services.
Paquette indicated that if your family does not have a plan Fire Prevention Week is a good time to make one and ensure that you “Have 2 Ways Out!” If you are in need of help making a fire escape plan, Paquette said that Chestermere Fire Services is willing to provide tips and advice on creating one.
Following Fire Prevention Week, Chestermere Fire Services is happy to announce that there are several Fire Prevention projects they will begin providing to residents over the next few months including:
• Home Fire Risk Assessments
• Smoke Alarm Installation Program
• After the Emergency Program
