Voyent Alert! notification system launches in Chestermere

Voyent Alert app

A local emergency can have an impact on your commute, your work or your child’s day at school. Now there’s a way for Chestermere residents to receive location-specific and time-sensitive information during emergencies with a brand new app.

“Part of Chestermere’s Amazing vision is to provide high-quality services to residents that improve their quality of life,” says Chestermere Mayor Marshall Chalmers. “The Voyent Alert! app will allow the City to increase the effectiveness of current emergency communications to residents, while coordinating all City emergency management efforts to continue to champion a safe community.”

The app is free to download from any smart phone app store and all that is needed to register is a Chestermere postal code.

“The app will allow the City to alert subscribers to emergencies such as fires, storms, or highway closures and provide safety instructions specific to the event and the user’s location,” says Brian Pomrenke, Chestermere Fire Chief and Acting Director of Emergency Management.

Chestermere residents can set location pins in the app for their work, home, their child’s school or any other location they choose within the City’s boundaries.

“This is helpful for the many residents who may commute in and out of the City each day,” adds Pomrenke. “The app will inform them of potential emergencies that may affect their family.”

The app has the ability to notify all subscribers within the City if there is a large emergency, but also can customize notifications based on the distance a user might be from the incident.

“This will help us provide specific instructions to residents, such as how and where to evacuate if they are close to the incident, or provide directions to shelter-in-place if they are located just outside an incident area,” adds Pomrenke.

Residents who do not have a smart phone can also easily subscribe using their mobile phone, land line or email through the service’s web portal at https://register.voyent-alert.com.
