February 26 Update: 8pm
The damaged sewer trunk line has been repaired and Chestermere residents may return to normal water usage.
Thank you for limiting your water usage over the past 24 hours. It helped reduce the flow to the lift stations and our main sewage holding tank while the necessary repairs were underway.
Thank you for your cooperation as we worked to get this fixed.
Please note that all costs for this project will be assumed by those responsible and not the taxpayers.
February 26 Update: 12pm
Work on the damaged sewer trunk line is still in progress (including the cleanup) and will continue for the remainder of Wednesday, February 26.
To help keep our sewer flows down, the community is asked to continue to limit non-essential water use for the remainder of the day.
Only use water for flushing and cooking.
We ask that our community avoids laundry, car washes, dish washing by hand and bathing until tomorrow, if possible.
This will reduce the flow to the lift stations and our main sewage holding tank while the necessary repairs are underway.
This does not impact Chestermere’s drinking water, which remains safe.
Thank you for your cooperation as we work to get this fixed as quickly as possible.
Please note that all costs for this project will be assumed by those responsible and not the taxpayers.

February 25:
Earlier this afternoon, a private contractor accidentally ruptured Chestermere’s main sewer trunk line to Calgary.
Crews are on site working to repair the break as quickly as possible.
As an interim measure, residents are asked to limit all non-essential water use immediately. Please avoid unnecessary laundry, car washes, dish washing by hand, and bathing. Please limit water use to essential activities like toilet flushing and cooking until further notice.
This will reduce the flow to the lift stations and our main sewage holding tank while the necessary repairs are underway.
This does not impact Chestermere’s drinking water, which remains safe.
We expect to be back to normal operations by tomorrow.
Thank you for your cooperation.
