For more than a decade, families in Chestermere who had a child under 5 always knew that they had a safe, welcoming place to go when they walked through the doors of the Parent Link Centre.
“The Kidz 1st Network Parent Link Centre has been working with families and children in the community for over 13 years, delivering a range of free family support services and programs throughout Chestermere & Southeast Rocky View,” says Suzan Jensen, Chestermere’s Early Childhood Supports Team Lead.
As of March 31, Parent Link Centres across the province will be replaced by Family Resource Networks which will offer a continuum of programs and services for children, youth, and families to support their well-being, resiliency, and cultural connections. The City has applied to be a community provider delivering a range of services under the new provincial funding model.
“We are excited about what the future holds under a new model and welcome a new vision of wider family support services through Family Resource Networks,” says Jensen. “While we are still waiting for the details of what this will look like, we also wanted to acknowledge and celebrate the past 13 years of success as a Parent Link Centre.”
The PLC Looking Back & Moving Forward Community Celebration is open to the entire community and will be held at the Parent Link Centre on March 18 from 4:30 – 7:30 pm. Anyone who has ever interacted with the PLC whether as a parent, child, staff member or volunteer is welcome to stop in to share memories and connect.
“We look forward to reconnecting with families, chatting about how their kids have grown and looking ahead together,” says Jensen.
