There’s a Chinese proverb that says ‘a good neighbour is a priceless treasure.’ The City of Chestermere is encouraging residents to celebrate the treasure of having a good neighbour during the inaugural ‘Amazing Neighbour Week’ taking place August 9-15.
“Earlier this year, Council wanted to find a new way to acknowledge and celebrate amazing neighbours around our community,” says Mayor Marshall Chalmers. “COVID-19 has changed many things. But one thing it has not changed is the importance of having and being a good neighbour. In fact, it has made it even more important as we find new ways to care for those in our community.”
The Amazing Neighbour Week initiative, spearheaded by Deputy Mayor Ritesh Narayan and Councillor Mel Foat, is designed to encourage people to get to know their neighbours, celebrate having a good neighbour and consider how to be an amazing neighbour to others.
“Over the next week, we invite you to take a moment to acknowledge the amazing neighbours on your street,” says Chalmers. “We will be sharing ideas and suggestions to inspire you, and we’d love to hear your ideas for celebrating great neighbours!”
