VEHICLE THEFT IS A PROBLEM
Each year thousands of vehicles are stolen in Alberta. In 2017 more than 24,000 vehicles were stolen in Alberta which represented 29% of all stolen vehicles across the country. On average this accounts for 68 vehicle thefts each day.
As an added crime prevention measure the Chestermere RCMP has created the Security Screw Program.
Residents of Chestermere can attend the Chestermere RCMP Detachment or one of the participating locations to have a security screw installed at no charge.
The security screw is supplied by a loss prevention company with a proprietary bit. These bits are not available for purchase at retail stores.
Once installed, property criminals will have difficulty removing a license plate without detection or causing noticeable damage to the license plate. Most of whom will likely move on.
When your vehicle is sold or you want to remove your license plate, simply attend the Chestermere RCMP Detachment or participating location to have it removed.

Chestermere CAPTURE Program
The Chestermere CAPTURE (Community Assisted Policing Through Use of Recorded Evidence) program is a voluntary camera registry that records the locations of security cameras in Chestermere.
The purpose of the program is to build a registry of private security camera locations to assist in police investigations.
Often, private security cameras capture evidence that can be used to help solve a crime. If an incident happens, Chestermere RCMP can view the list of camera locations, and contact the registered camera owners.
By providing Chestermere RCMP with the location of your home or business security camera, you could be helping to shorten the required time for investigations and providing key information to help hold people responsible for committing crimes.
- Registering your camera is voluntary
- Multiple cameras can be registered
- RCMP do not have access to your cameras
- The registry provides RCMP with a list of cameras only and they will ask users for permission to view footage if there has been a crime in the area
- Joining the registry does not mean you are obligated to give access or share your footage. By registering, you are only providing the location of your camera
- If a crime occurs in your area and the RCMP contacts you to inquire about your camera footage, you can either provide the RCMP with footage OR view the footage yourself and advise officers if you have captured evidence that you can share
- This registry information is not shared publicly - it is only accessible by the Chestermere RCMP
- You can withdraw your information at any time.
